Credit Union Day is Thursday 18th

The 70th International Credit Union Day is being celebrated around the world on Thursday, October 18th.

The day is recognized to reflect upon the credit union movement’s history, promote its achievements, recognize the hard work and share member experiences. International Credit Union (ICU) Day® has been celebrated on the third Thursday of October since 1948.

The ultimate goal is to raise awareness about the tremendous work that credit unions and other financial cooperatives are doing around the world and give members the opportunity to get more engaged. The day of festivities for credit unions and financial cooperatives globally include fundraisers, open houses, contests, picnics, volunteering and parades.

North Valley Credit Union branches at Esterhazy and Stockholm will offer cookies, coffee, and prizes on October 18th to visitors to celebrate the event.

Have you thought about solar?

Wouldn’t it be a great idea to reduce your power bills and at the same time know that you are contributing to a cleaner environment for all of us? Well, now you can. And, our sponsor, North Valley Credit Union is there to help. They have a number of financing options to choose from that might work well in your situation. These could entail:

• Adding the cost of your solar generator to your existing mortgage (non-CMHC).
• Taking out a separate loan over a period of time that is commensurate with the long-lived nature of the solar panels you are installing using the equity in your home.
• Taking out a shorter-term consumer loan to finance the purchase.

Remember that installing a solar generator on your house will increase its value when it comes time to sell. Most solar panel arrays are guaranteed for 25 years but usually last longer than this so you will be creating a power generating unit that will provide value for many years to come.

You can do your own research and choose whichever solar company you want to do the installation.

Please feel free to talk to one of the NVCU lenders for a free consultation to see if installing a solar generator will work for you.

Elaine Nordquist Retires After Thirty Years of Service

It is with sadness that we announce the retirement of Elaine Nordquist from North Valley Credit Union following over 30 years of service to our credit union. Her final day with our company was June 8th, 2018.

Elaine began her career in the financial services industry at a chartered bank in 1971 and spent five years in that position, resigning in April 1976. She then took time out of the workforce to raise a family. Elaine signed on with the Esterhazy Credit Union in March of 1988.

During her tenure she held the positions of Teller, Office Supervisor and finally Accountant. Elaine feels her greatest accomplishments were guiding the credit union through two banking system conversions. She also played a major role in the amalgamation of Esterhazy Credit Union with Stockholm & District Credit Union to form North Valley Credit Union in 1998. She also was front and centre during the acquisition of the assets of the Bank of Montreal in 2000.

Elaine has always been a tremendous resource to the front line staff and others within the organization. She has trained, mentored and supported many employees over the years. Her commitment to the credit union was proven time and again by the conscientious way in which she carried out her responsibilities. Elaine was an excellent employee and a good friend.

Elaine plans on spending a lot more time at the lake as well as travelling and spending more time with her family in her retirement.

On behalf of everyone at NVCU please accept our best wishes for a wonderful retirement. We will all miss you.
