Melville Mayor’s Corner – March 11

MAYOR-WalterStreelasky-500Even after a very gentle winter it’s great to welcome the many wonderful sights and sounds of spring.

Melville Millionaire Player Awards Night occurred on Saturday, March 5 ending the 2015-16 Millionaire hockey season. Thank you Team…Thank you Coaches! We wish Assistant Coach T.J. Reeve well as he pursues studies at Saskatchewan Polytechnic next fall. Also best wishes to Neil Lamberty for his many years of stellar leadership and commitment to our Millionaires. A special thank you is extended to the players and coaches of Melville Prairie Fire for an excellent year of hockey. A great Melville – Prince Albert Series…Well done all!

As part of our ongoing flood mitigation program I am happy to report that enlarged culverts are being placed at Agripark Road. For years, this area, has  acted as a major barrier in retaining our storm system and Crescent Creek drainage flow. This project, along with our flow monitoring system, a proposed flood plain study and extra drainage on the curve of Highway #10 will hopefully lessen any possible future devastating floods.

We commend the many different groups that initiated a series of events in support of Telemiracle 40. Over the years, our community has been the recipient of this most successful Saskatchewan –based event. The Melville Kinsmen- Kinettes are to be commended on their various initiatives in support of Telemiracle.

The Annual Chamber of Commerce meeting was held on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at the Melville Heritage Museum. Reports on various activities were presented along with an update regarding  the upcoming Trade Fair on April 1-3. Appreciation is extended to outgoing President Tammy Oryschak for her committed leadership to the Chamber. Mr. Joe Kirwan was named incoming President. We wish President Kirwan and the Chamber well in their future endeavors.

Did you know that over 200 Sunrise Health Cardiac Care sessions have occurred at the Cardiac Care Family Fitness Centre providing residents of Melville and area with a broad range of therapeutic care?
