Gillian Potter, RBC Royal Bank Branch manager for Yorkton presented a cheque for $40,000 to Ross Fisher, Executive Director of The Health Foundation today. RBC made the commitment in 2015 and provided an initial cheque for $10,000 at that time.
“When Mr. Fisher approached us to discuss support of the Health and Wellness Centre a year ago we were intrigued by the concept of care behind this new facility. This new wellness centre was going to have a variety of different healthcare providers under one roof, working together to make healthcare more accessible and responsive to the needs of patients. We were very interested in supporting that concept,” said Gillian Potter.
“RBC Royal Bank is very interested in education and supports both education and health across the country. When the Foundation advised us that the new Health and Wellness Centre would have an education component, with both telehealth for a variety of chronic medical conditions and with diabetes education and training we decided that we wanted to support the education facilities and equipment needed,” said Mrs. Potter.
“When RBC Royal Bank stepped up with a $50,000 donation that leadership allowed us to undertake the campaign to raise the funds and move forward with the facility. In return for their significant donation we have named the education room in the facility the RBC Education Room,” said Ross Fisher.
Sunrise has been pleased with the Health and Wellness Centre as it is meeting the goals set out when it was created. The Centre had two primary objectives when it was planned:
- The initial focus of the Centre was to provide support for persons with chronic disease conditions, women’s wellness needs and general health needs.
- Care providers located at the Centre include nurse practitioners, diabetes nurse educator, diabetes nutritionist, exercise therapist, chronic disease management facilitators, mental health nurses, therapists and physicians who choose to lease space in the Centre.
The expectation was having all these care providers under one roof would help to eliminate gaps in service and meet the needs of the population while improving patient outcomes. The Centre is a pilot project that is being evaluated and adjusted to best meet its goals, but at this time Sunrise is pleased with performance.
The Sunrise Health and Wellness Centre is located at 25 – 259 Hamilton Road, Yorkton. For more information, including an informational video, please visit the Sunrise Health Region’s website HERE
