Great weather for Esterhazy Lions Club’s fishing derby

The fish might not have been biting at the Lions fishing derby on Valentine’s Day, but neither was the wind. With brilliant sunshine, mild temperatures hovering near zero, and blue skies punctuated by just the right amount of cloud to be aesthetically beautiful, it was a perfect day out on the ice at Bird’s Point, Round Lake.

For the sake of safety, attendees parked their vehicles along the shoreline, but it was only a short walk out to the holes that were pre-drilled in the ice for the event. Still, in the middle of the great circle, there were grills cooking up burgers, and prizes to be had, as well as the display of items for the raffle.

The winner of the sonar flasher was Lynn Hawes. Winner of the longest Jack was Ernie Appel the fish was 27.25 inches. Winner of the longest walleye was Glenn Popowich the fish was 23 inches
