Facebook feeds were buzzing this morning with word of an incident at Mosaic’s K1 potash mine near Esterhazy.
After some communication with Mosaic, EsterhazyOnline has received the following official press release.
PLYMOUTH, MN, October 26, 2015 – The Mosaic Company (NYSE: MOS) confirmed that a skip, a device that transports potash to the surface, experienced a mechanical failure at the Esterhazy K1 potash mine in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan early this morning. The company has stopped mining operations at the facility while it conducts an investigation to determine the extent of damage. No significant injuries occurred. While the extent of damage and length of shutdown have yet to be determined, Mosaic expects potash sales in the fourth quarter of 2015 to be unaffected by the incident.
EsterhazyOnline is still trying to fill in more details through messages phoned in to Mosaic this afternoon. We will publish more information as it is received.
