We have just received a press release, issued jointly by Good Spirit School Division and The Mosaic Company, with some very good news for PJ Gillen School. It reads as follows:-

The Board of Education of the Good Spirit School Division is pleased to announce it has received a grant from The Mosaic Company to support infrastructure improvements at PJ Gillen School in Esterhazy.

The $300,000 grant from Mosaic will be used to support work in the following areas:-

  • The purchase of lockers (one for every student)
  • library upgrades including flooring, painting, new shelving and circulation desk; and,
  • a complete upgrade to the gymnasium in terms of new flooring, removal of carpet from walls, refinishing, painting, upgrades to washrooms and storage rooms, and structural upgrades to the mezzanine (including the addition of an exterior exit)

“This grant will help offset the demand for infrastructure improvements in our local school, leading to a safer and healthier learning environment for current students and future generations,” said Nevin Maga, General Manager of Mosaic’s Esterhazy Operations. “Mosaic is committed to being here for the long term as we continue to invest both in our communities and our business.”

Teresa Korol, Good Spirit School Division Facilities Manager, echoes similar comments, “We are excited to partner with Mosaic to enhance the learning environment for students. Great partnerships with community leaders such as Mosaic will bring health and wellness enhancements to highly utilized areas of the school.”

“We are thankful for Mosaic’s commitment to education,” states Lois Smandych, Board Chair. “This announcement sees the work being completed in conjunction with the heating and ventilation upgrades to PJ Gillen School this summer. School environment improvements for staff and students are an important part of education in a growing area of our division.”

Official opening ceremonies acknowledging the grant donation and work completed over the summer will be announced in late fall 2015.
