The Saskatchewan Country Music Association will be holding its annual award ceremonies from April 24 – 26, and this year the prestigious event takes place in Yorkton, at the Gallagher Centre and the Painted Hand Casino.
Local singer Rachel Dancsok is on the host committee for two of the programs during the event. She and Jackie Guy are in charge of the Gospel Brunch and Showcase, and the Youth Showcase, both events taking place on the Sunday.
There’s a tremendous amount of work and responsibility in taking on one event, let alone two, but Rachel and Jackie are already moving into high gear to get things done.
First, they have to go through the association members who might be suitable to perform this part of the program, then they have to narrow down their selections, and finally make the decision on who will actually sing at the event. Then there’s the whole matter of event co-ordination, organizing the content of the show, the timing, and the master of ceremonies.
The event is more than the awards ceremony. The weekend includes development workshops, seminars, performances, the president’s gala, and of course the awards themselves Over the quarter century, attendance has ranged between 300 and 800, depending on location, with audiences coming from across the province and representing a number of different demographics.
We congratulate Rachel for being given this responsibility. Her local fans may like to know her own CD’s are for sale at Pharmasave Esterhazy.
